ERAS License Consumption
Below is a table that represents an explanation of the ERAS licensing model and includes two additional examples at the bottom of the table:
| Computer with TPM | Self-Encrypting Drive | Number of Licenses Consumed |
| TPM Enabled | 0 Drive Initialized | 1 License Consumed |
| TPM Enabled | X Drives Initialized | X Licenses Consumed |
| TPM Disabled | X Drives Initialized | X Licenses Consumed |
| Examples Below: | ||
| TPM Enabled | 1 Drive Initialized | 1 License Consumed |
| TPM Enabled | 2 Drives Initialized | 2 Licenses Consumed |
- ERAS consumes a license for each self-encrypting drive that has been initialized and/or locked by ERAS.
- If a computer account has been disabled or has been removed from Active Directory, but the drive remains initialized and or locked, that drive will continue to consume a license.
- A computer may have two or more drives, so if two self-encrypting drives are connected to a machine and ERAS has initialized both drives, it consumes two licenses.
- The second drive could be an external drive or an internal drive.
There are two ways to release the license of a self-encrypting drive from ERAS: Uninitialize the drive from ERAS or use the instant Erase button located in the Security Control window. This will automatically uninitialize the drive.
